And, with the 172nd derby with neighbours Manchester City on the horizon, Fellaini is intent on utilising the confidence Mourinho's trust in him has created to silence his doubters. "Louis va

Davido: I Have Done My Part & My Best , I Am Sorry To All My True Fans

Image
Celebrity Digest Davido still hasn’t released one single song in the entire 2016 which is proving his music deal with Sony is a wrong move – at least for now. The singer had gave African music hope when he penned a deal – which he said was worth $1million after months of music barrenness. Now fast forward September the singer can’t catch a breathe. Davido claims it isn’t his fault that he won’t be releasing an EP (Son of Mercy) he promised fans this month in a Snapchat rant earlier. The singer has had to depend on collaborations to stay relevant in the music game. He will also need his artistes Dremo and Mayorkun to continue to do well for him to remain on everyone’s lips as the music game is pretty forgetful. After winning African Artiste of The Year in 2014 and 2015 at the MAMAs, it is fair to say Davido won’t walk away with anything at the forthcoming awards.

Rooney breaks England caps record

Image
Soccer Digest Wayne Rooney became England's most capped outfield player when he was awarded his 116th cap by new manager Sam Allardyce in Sunday's opening 2018 World Cup qualifier away to Slovakia. Team captain Rooney, 30, surpasses his former England teammate David Beckham, who was capped 115 times by his country. Goalkeeper Peter Shilton, capped 125 times, holds the overall record. "I think it is always important and an honour to represent your country," Rooney said on the eve of the game in Trnava. "To do it the second-most times will be great, but tomorrow (Sunday) is about the team, about getting three points. "I'm sure one day in the future I will look back, but for now I'm looking to the game tomorrow and nothing else." Rooney is also England's record goal-scorer with 53 goals, having broken Bobby Charlton's longstanding record of 49 in September 2015. As

Rooney to quit England after 2018

Image
Soccer Digest   Wayne Rooney will end his England career after the 2018 World Cup in Russia, the striker said on Tuesday. The 30-year-old made his announcement at a news conference ahead of the World Cup qualifier against Slovakia on Sunday, when he will set a new record for an England outfield player, ahead of David Beckham, by winning his 116th cap. "Come Russia I feel that will be the time for me to say goodbye to international football, my mind is made up," said Rooney, who was reappointed England captain by new manager Sam Allardyce on Monday. "Russia will be my last opportunity to do anything with England so I'm going to try to enjoy these two years and hopefully I can end my time with England on a high," he said. England's record goalscorer with 53 goals, Rooney has been a stalwart for his country since bursting on to the international scene under Sven-Goran Eriksson at Euro 2004. Four managers and 12 years later, however, Rooney accep

Barkley urged to prove Allardyce wrong

Image
Soccer Digest   Gareth Barry hopes Everton will benefit from midfield colleague Ross Barkley's determination to force his way back into the England squad. The 23-year-old Barkley's omission for the World Cup qualifier against Slovakia in Trnava was the main talking point when new England manager Sam Allardyce named his first squad in charge of the national side. England scraped a 1-0 away to 10-man Slovakia on Sunday when midfielder Adam Lallana, who plays for Everton's city rivals Liverpool, scored with the last kick of the match in the fifth minute of stoppage time. Toffees veteran Barry, who won 53 England caps from 2000 to 2012, said it was down to club colleague Barkley to prove Allardyce wrong. "Ross can feel a little bit hard done by," said the midfielder, speaking at Everton in the Community's annual charity golf day on Monday. "It's a tough job being England manager and Sam said it was a really tough decision for him but in te

England to play Spain in friendly

Image
Soccer Digest   England will host Spain in a friendly international at Wembley on November 15, the teams announced on Thursday. The game will be an early test for new England coach Sam Allardyce, coming four days after a World Cup qualifier against Scotland at Wembley. Spain also have a new coach after Julen Lopetegui replaced Vicente del Bosque following their disappointing European Championship title defence in France this year, when they were eliminated by Italy in the round of 16. The match will be the 25th between the sides, with England having 12 victories to Spain's nine, although the 2010 World Cup winners won their last meeting 2-0 in November 2015.

Costa revival is good news – Morata

Image
Soccer Digest   Diego Costa is in favour with Spain's national team again after a couple of terrific displays – and nobody is happier than the country's other premier striker, Alvaro Morata. Since coming on for Morata after the Real Madrid forward picked up a knock in Spain's 2-0 win over Belgium in Brussels last week, Costa has done nothing but impress new coach Julen Lopetegui. Lopetegui, who recalled Costa after the Brazilian-born player was omitted from Spain's Euro 2016 squad, was delighted to see the Chelsea striker score twice in the 8-0 demolition of Liechtenstein in Monday's World Cup qualifier. Costa scored just one goal in 10 appearances for the national team when Vicente del Bosque was coach. "The more competition there is, the better it is for Spain and for our football," Morata, who impressed at Euro 2016 and also scored twice against Liechtenstein, told Marca. "We have to continue like this. We have reason to believe in

Pep, Jose resume hostilities in derby

Soccer Digest Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho and his Manchester City adversary Guardiola rekindle a rivalry 20 years in the making in this weekend's hotly anticipated Manchester derby. Friends who became foes, Mourinho and Guardiola represent opposite ends of football's ideological spectrum and their ongoing grudge match has shaped the game's recent history. It is three years since they last shared a touchline and Saturday's clash at Old Trafford marks the resumption of a duel that could determine the outcome of the Premier League title race. "He (Guardiola) left Barcelona for a number of reasons," former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher wrote in the Daily Mail when Mourinho was appointed by United in May.

Palace sign former Arsenal midfielder

Image
Soccer Digest   Crystal Palace have signed midfielder Mathieu Flamini on a one-year contract, the Premier League club announced on Thursday. The 32-year-old, who joined Palace on a free transfer, has made over 200 appearances in two spells with Arsenal. He was without a club since leaving the Gunners at the end of last season. "Crystal Palace is a very ambitious club with great players and I am looking forward to being part of that squad," Flamini, who won the Serie A title with AC Milan in 2011, told the club's website (www.cpfc.co.uk). "It is a very interesting challenge for me and I am very excited to be here." Palace, who have one point from their opening three league games this season, visit Middlesbrough on Saturday.

Payet boost for Hammers

Image
Soccer Digest Attacking midfielder Dimitri Payet is likely to make his first Premier League start of the season for West Ham United in Saturday's clash with Watford, manager Slaven Bilic said on Thursday. The 29-year-old, who has suffered niggling injuries, last featured for West Ham as a substitute in their opening league game against Chelsea last month, but made an appearance in France's World Cup qualifier against Belarus on Tuesday. Payet scored 12 goals in all competitions last season after joining from Olympique Marseille in June last year. The Frenchman was also the joint second-top scorer at Euro 2016 with three goals and was named in the team of the tournament. "I have just seen Payet and he has not played for us since the Chelsea game," Bilic told reporters. "He has played for France and we will see today. I am expecting him to be fit and ready to start the game. We have missed him. It is the same for every club. France missed him."

'Cherries already feeling Wilshere impact'

Image
Soccer Digest Midfielder Jack Wilshere has given Bournemouth's dressing room a lift and is in contention to make his club debut in Saturday's Premier League clash against West Bromwich Albion, manager Eddie Howe said on Thursday. Bournemouth completed one of the more unexpected deals of deadline day when they moved for Wilshere on a season-loan from Arsenal. The 24-year-old had slipped down the pecking order at Arsenal after being restricted by injuries in the last two seasons. "He's settled into the changing room and the dynamics of the group seamlessly," Howe told reporters. "He has been very bright and good in training. "As you would expect his quality on the ball is obvious and his technical ability is of a very high level. "We'll wait and see what my team selection is, but I think he has naturally given the place a lift. There's been a positive impact around the squad." Bournemouth are second from bottom in the leag

Remy to miss Boro clash

Image
Soccer Digest Crystal Palace striker Loic Remy has been ruled out of Saturday's visit to Middlesbrough with a thigh injury, manager Alan Pardew confirmed on Thursday. Remy, who suffered the injury during training on Monday, is yet to feature in the Premier League this season. "Unfortunately, Loic got injured on Monday and the seriousness of that, I don't know. But he's not going to be involved this weekend, so it's a bit of a blow," Pardew told Sky Sports. "He's just got a little thigh strain. I don't know how long he's out for, but he's had a scan on Tuesday morning and I'll know more today." The 29-year-old France forward joined Palace from Chelsea on a season-long loan last month, having largely found himself on the bench since he joined Chelsea in 2014. Palace have started their new league season with one point from their opening three games.

Luiz happy to be jack of all trades

Image
Soccer Digest David Luiz insists he is willing to play in a variety of roles for Chelsea following his surprise move back to Stamford Bridge. Luiz rejoined the Premier League club from Paris Saint-Germain on transfer deadline day last month and has been renewing old acquaintances at Chelsea's Cobham training ground this week. The 29-year-old's arrival gives Chelsea manager Antonio Conte increased options as he can play in a traditional centre-half role, but also in defensive midfield. Luiz could make up part of a back three with Gary Cahill and John Terry when Chelsea resume domestic action at Swansea on Sunday as Conte has often preferred to play 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 formations. Luiz, who became the world's most expensive defender when he left Chelsea for PSG in 2014, has no issues with whatever position he is required to fill for the team. "I started playing three at the back with Vitoria in Brazil, but it doesn't matter where, I want to help and when I

Aguero handed three-game ban

Image
Soccer Digest Sergio Aguero will miss Manchester City's derby showdown with Manchester United after the Argentina striker was given a three-match ban for violent conduct on Friday. Aguero was punished retrospectively by the Football Association after television cameras caught him elbowing West Ham defender Winston Reid during City's Premier League victory at Eastlands last weekend. Referee Andre Marriner had missed the incident and City denied the charge, but the FA found Aguero guilty and his suspension will start on September 10 when Pep Guardiola's side visit Old Trafford for the Manchester derby. Aguero will also miss City's home league clash with Bournemouth on September 17 and an English Football League Cup tie at Swansea four days later. "Sergio Aguero will serve a three-match suspension with immediate effect after an FA charge of violent conduct against him was found proven," an FA statement read. "The Manchester City forward was

City eyeing Manchester derby win

Image
Soccer Digest Nothing less than victory will do for Manchester City in Saturday's feisty Premier League derby against Manchester United, playmaker David Silva has said. Silva, who scored both goals in Spain's friendly win over Belgium last week and two more against Liechtenstein in their World Cup qualifier on Monday, has featured in all of City's league games this season under manager Pep Guardiola. Table-topper City sit marginally above United on goal difference after both sides won their first three league games. "It's going to be a very beautiful game. The two teams arrive to this game having taken good results and after making wholesale changes in every sense," the 30-year-old told Spanish radio station Cope. "We've started the season very well and it should be a great game. But we won't be playing for a draw. We will go out to win the match." City have won three times and drew one in their last five top flight meetings wi

Mou, Pep the best of enemies

Image
Soccer Digest Not many people talk badly of Pep Guardiola, a sainted figure in football, but Manchester City's manager will find two of his most vocal critics facing him down at Old Trafford on Saturday. While Spain is a world away from Manchester on a dreary day, the fallout from Guardiola's combustible relationship with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, whom he managed for an ill-starred season at Barcelona, and Jose Mourinho, whom he opposed in 11 'El Clasicos', is impossible to ignore, particularly since all three descended on English football's second city. Ibrahimovic's spell at the Nou Camp ended with him branding Guardiola a "spineless coward" for speaking to him only twice in six months. By contrast, the Swede regularly showers Mourinho, his coach when at Inter Milan, with praise, labelling him a "manager who lights up a room where Guardiola draws the curtains," an unusually colourful metaphor in football's normally monochrome
